Quavo, Luke Bryan and Teddy Swims have teamed up for an unexpected collaboration, ‘Georgia Ways’, with the new song set to be released on Friday, December 6th, 2024.
Quavo has been teasing a country-leaning track for a few weeks now, with the Migos rapper sharing a series of photographs of him fishing alongside Luke Bryan earlier in November.
Although known for his serpentine, AutoTune-drenched vocals and rattling hi-hats, with Quavo appearing on hits such as Post Malone's ‘Congratulations’ and DJ Khaled's ‘I'm the One’, it seems the Atlanta artist is now making a foray into country music.
The ‘FLIP THE SWITCH’ crooner's high-profile 2024 collaboration with Lana Del Rey, ‘Tough’, was widely expected to be a country song prior to its release in July, with the imagery surrounding the track featuring shots of Quavo and Lana in rural settings.
Despite ‘Tough’ ultimately being grounded in pop, the song was co-written by fast-emerging country artist, Maddox Batson, suggesting Quavo is dipping his toe into the Nashville scene.
From the new snippet Quavo, Luke Bryan and Teddy Swims have shared via socials, ‘Georgia Ways’ looks to be a more decidedly country track, with the three artists trading verses about their love for the Peach State. Each of the trio hails from Georgia, with Quavo describing the forthcoming release as “an anthem for my Georgia Dawgs”.
Luke Bryan has always been open to incorporating rap-leaning influences into his music, while Teddy Swims is another premier, modern-day genre-blender. The latter recently delivered a spellbinding performance with Thomas Rhett during the 2024 CMA Awards, with the duo treating the crowd to a medley of their revamped duet, ‘Somethin’ Bout a Woman’, and Swims’ soulful, smash hit single, ’Lose Control’.
It remains to be seen whether Quavo is plotting a full-length crossover country album, in the mould of Post Malone's F-1Trillion and Beyoncé's COWBOY CARTER, but after hearing the earworm hook for ‘Georgia Ways’, we're sure hoping this isn't a one-off.
