Although he was only initially scheduled to perform ‘California Sober’ alongside Chris Stapleton, Post Malone surprised CMA Awards 2024 viewers by serenading them with the final, heartfelt song from his lauded new album, F-1 Trillion, ‘Yours’.
Closing out the tracklist for the original, non-deluxe project, ‘Yours’ is arguably Post Malone's most candid song to date, with the New York native crooning gently about how much he dreads the moment he has to give his daughter away on her wedding day.
The fact that Posty's daughter - who is referred to by the initials ‘DDP’ due to her identity being kept secret - is only two years old, makes the sentiment of ‘Yours’ all the more endearing.
The intimate, acoustic setting of the ‘Guy For That’ singer-songwriter's CMA Awards performance accentuated the intricacy and honesty that pervades ‘Yours’. Posty brought his trademark self-effacing demeanour to the live take on the heartwarming ballad, with the gentle quiver of his vibrato enhancing the vulnerability of the track.
In addition, Post Malone was joined on the Bridgestone Arena stage by Kentucky hitmaker, Chris Stapleton, for a swaggering duet of their F-1Trillion collaboration, ‘California Sober’. The juxtaposition between the delicacy of ‘Yours’ and the confidence of ‘California Sober’ epitomised the versatility Post Malone is renowned for.
Post Malone's extensive involvement in the 2024 CMA Awards served as a full circle moment for the bearded crooner. His 2023 CMA Awards cameo alongside HARDY and Morgan Wallen felt like his first hesitant step into the genre, whereas this year, Posty looked at home as he embraced his status as a fully-fledged country star.
