If the contestants of this season of the ABC TV talent show American Idol were going to take career advice from anyone on the show, there would be no one better placed to pass it on to them than Carrie Underwood.
The 'Before He Cheats' singer rose to prominence after winning the fourth season of American Idol in 2005 and then returned as a judge in March 2025, replacing Katy Perry for the show's 23rd season and joining Lionel Richie and fellow country superstar Luke Bryan.
Sunday night's American Idol had welcomed Underwood's 'Something Bad' partner Miranda Lambert to the show, serving as a guest mentor and performing her 2005 hit 'Kerosene' on its 20th anniversary, as the contestants' songs were chosen to celebrate iconic women in music for "Ladies Night."
Mattie Pruitt's performance of Lambert's 'House That Built Me' was enough to see her through to the final eight contestants for Monday night's show as the final 10 was narrowed down on Sunday night.
After that, Carrie Underwood had some important advice for the remaining contestants, speaking to Breanna Nix and the others as they took to the stage.
"I want to tell you all an important trick," she told the contestants of American Idol. "It's called the Post and Ghost. You put your stuff out on social media and you don't look at the comments. That's how I live my life, man, and anytime anybody thinks they're yelling at me or insulting me or telling me I look a certain way, or that I'm not enough of this or too much of that, they're just yelling at the clouds. I don't hear or see any of it. So, Post and Ghost, people"
"I post and drink," Luke Bryan jokingly responded. "I need to stop doing that."
"You can post and drink," replied Carrie, laughing. "Just don't drink and post."
It certainly puts the lyrics to Carrie Underwood's 'Ghost Story' in a new light.
