It's safe to say it's a pretty darn good time to be a Morgan Wallen fan, as we've been getting a stream of unreleased song teasers and cryptic clues about his new album in recent weeks.
Today (Monday, February 24th), the ‘Last Night’ chart-topper has treated us to a snippet of a brand new track, ‘Superman’, which Wallen has penned in honour of his son, Indie.
It finds Morgan Wallen exploring a level of vulnerability and rawness we've seen on previous offerings such as ’Dying Man’, ‘Outlook’ and ‘Livin’ the Dream’, with the autobiographical ‘Superman‘ opening with a reference to Wallen's past brushes with the law.
Across an intricate, sparse guitar instrumental, Morgan Wallen croons reflectively, “One day he's gonna see my mugshot / From a night when I got a little too drunk / Hear a song about a girl that I lost / From the times when I just wouldn't grow up”.
Heartbreakingly, the Sneedville megastar confesses that he worries about what his son, Indigo Wilder, will think about his rowdier behaviour, “And when you ain't a kid no more / I hope you don't think less of me / I try to hide my fallen soul / But you're gonna see”.
Morgan Wallen then launches into the enchanting ‘Superman’ hook, with the ‘Love Somebody’ hitmaker wrapping his charismatic drawl around the emphatic backing, “Now and then, that's bottle's my kryptonite / Bring's a Man of Steel down to his knees / Don't always know my wrong from right / Sometimes I'm my own worst enemy / No, I don't always save the day, but you know for you I'll always try / I'll do the best I can / A Superman is still just a man sometimes / Oh, sometimes”.
In the caption to the newly unveiled ‘Superman’ song snippet, Morgan Wallen has explained that he's been attempting to pen a tribute to Indie for a while now, “Been trying for a long time to write a song I loved to my son. None of them ever feel good enough because of how perfect I want something like this to be. And not saying this is perfect, but I am very proud of it. Here is a clip, It’s called “Superman””.
During the album release show in Nashville for Morgan Wallen's previous album, One Thing At A Time in 2023, Wallen revealed that whenever he performed the album's closer, ‘Dying Man’, he envisioned that he was singing about how his son has saved him, even though lyrically, the track is addressed to a romantic partner.
Now, Morgan Wallen has gone a step further, writing a track especially for Indie. Wallen shares Indigo Wilder with his former fiancée, KT Smith, with Indie being born in 2020.
‘Superman’ is shaping up to carry out the same role on his album that Post Malone's ‘Yours’ - which was movingly written for his daughter - served on his 2024 project, F-1Trillion.
The ‘Everything I Love’ singer-songwriter has always ensured his albums are familial occasions, inviting his sister, Ashlyne, to sing on another One Thing At A Time ballad, ‘Outlook’, and penning the heartfelt ‘Thought You Should Know’ for his mother, Lesli.
‘Superman’ does not have a release date just yet, but it's expected to feature on Morgan Wallen's long-awaited new album, I'm the Problem, alongside other recently teased tracks such as ‘Since You Got Gone’. Over the weekend, Wallen continued to hint that more music is on the way following the arrival of the project's title-track in January.
Given the fact that the ethereal ‘Smile’ was released on December 31st and ‘I'm the Problem’ dropped on January 31st, could Morgan Wallen be readying ‘Superman’ for a release on the final day of February - which, conveniently, is this Friday, February 28th?
We suspect the album, I'm the Problem, may be set to drop on April 4th, 2025, as this would mirror the rollout for One Thing At A Time. That project - Wallen's third - was released on 3/3, so it makes sense for I'm the Problem - his fourth - to arrive on 4/4. Of course, at this point, this remains conjecture, but we're holding out hope.

“One day he's gonna see my mugshot
From a night when I got a little too drunk
Hear a song about a girl that I lost
From the times when I just wouldn't grow up
-
And when you ain't a kid no more
I hope you don't think less of me
I try to hide my fallen soul
But you're gonna see
-
Now and then, that's bottle's my kryptonite
Bring's a Man of Steel down to his knees
Don't always know my wrong from right
Sometimes I'm my own worst enemy
-
No, I don't always save the day, but you know for you I'll always try
I'll do the best I can
A Superman is still just a man sometimes
Oh, sometimes”
