Each generation has a few exceptional artists who manage to resonate so intensely with the youth that their voice becomes a beacon of hope and unity. Noah Kahan made a compelling case to be one of those voices at the Extra Innings Festival in Tempe, AZ.
Amassing an audience comparable to the previous night's headliner, Chris Stapleton, a ferocious surge of screams, hollers and even tears welcomed Kahan to the desert.
Scenes from the front row were rich with elation as men and women lining the barricades ejected their anxieties by fervently belting each lyric to Kahan's opening track, 'Northern Attitude'.
Following his first song on the Home Plate Stage, Noah accentuated the vibrance of the atmosphere with a lively performance of 'New Perspective,' covering ground across the stage to extract even more energy from an audience giving their all.
'Everywhere, Everything' and 'She Calls Me Back' were met with similar levels of praise, with Noah Kahan's spirit inhabiting the hearts of every person willing to accept.
After 'Forever', Noah Kahan moved into a lesser-known track of his, 'Your Needs, My Needs.' Kahan maintained a lighthearted attitude on stage: "If you wanna grab a beer or go to the bathroom, now would be a good time because the first minute fifteen of this song is pretty boring". After playing the instrumental intro to the song, Noah said, "See what I mean?" in reference to his previous comment.
Noah Kahan touched on his personal experience with therapy, expressing that he had been having sessions since he was eight years old and lied to his therapist for the first ten years he went. That anecdote led into 'Growing Sideways', followed by 'All My Love', leaving a hopeful ambience sifting through the evening breeze.

Noah Kahan once again showcased this witty sense of humor during 'False Confidence', telling the crowd to put their hands up, then stating, "Now give me all your fuckin’ money!"
To cap off the high-octane set, Noah played essentials like 'Dial Drunk', 'Stick Season' and 'Homesick.' Ending with three of his most admired songs left the audience thirsty for more.
Noah Kahan held Tempe in the palm of his hand from 6:50-7:50 on Saturday evening, offering every ounce of his spirit to the crowd of over 20,000. Kahan's music provides something rare and invaluable to a young generation filled with anxiety and angst: hope.
