HARDY's the mockingbird & THE CROW era is officially in the past, according to the 'wait in the truck' tunesmith.
Taking to socials on Tuesday afternoon (February 6), HARDY shared that his next single, 'ROCKSTAR', will be released this coming Friday. What's more, he also made a point to share that it would be included on his "upcoming rock album".
"[I] just wanted to let you guys know that I have a song coming out called 'ROCKSTAR' coming out on February 9th," he gushed. "I'm so excited to finally say this: I'm putting out a rock record that's going to be out before the tour stars. It's badass and I'm so excited for y'all to hear it!"
This new era of HARDY's artistry first began last month with the release of 'QUIT!!'. Arriving with mixed reactions from country music listeners, the single showed a new side of the Mississippi native, falling more into the rap lane with the entirety of the song taking the form of spoken word.
Shortly after, HARDY also unveiled his extensive Quit!! Tour, which will kick off on May 30. However, as the decorated singer-songwriter noted, the forthcoming record is slated to arrive before then.
The unveiling of a new rock album isn't particularly out of left field from the country hitmaker, whose 2023 LP took the shape of a dichotomous half country, half rock opus. the mockingbird & THE CROW served as a superb introduction to his rock sensibilities, producing hits such as 'JACK', 'TRUCK BED' and 'SOLD OUT', among others.
Since his emergence into the country mainstream, HARDY has taken on a sound entirely his own, and one not confined to any specific genre boundaries.
While his songwriting tends to take a more traditional country approach, proven by his long list of hits for other artists in the format, his vocal styling and production choices continue to blur the lines and propel him into the forefront of the country-rock subgenre.
As with much of HARDY's career and discography thus far, this yet-to-be-named rock album will represent the newest layer to his complex artistry. Though we can't say for sure whether or not HARDY has officially moved on to more rock pastures, we feel pretty confident that our country boy will always come back to his southern roots.
After all, there's a new Hixtape coming soon and it's got HARDY's name all over it...
