Muscadine Bloodline have just wrapped their run on Lainey Wilson’s Whirlwind Tour, a full-circle moment for the Alabama duo who’ve shared a long road with the now-stadium-filling star. From dive bars to sold-out arenas, Charlie Muncaster and Gary Stanton sit down with Holler to reflect on friendship, fan-converting support slots and what comes next now that their new album, Longleaf Lo-Fi, is out.
“We’ve known Lainey forever, so that’s an even cooler part of the story,” Charlie says. “We’ve been broke together, played to nobody together and been friends through all that.”
Their hearrtwarming, deep-seated bond stretches back years, including their 2020 collaboration ‘Pieces’, which would go on to become a nightly highlight on the tour.
Fresh off their first arena support run with Post Malone, Muscadine Bloodline joined Wilson for September and October dates, stepping onto some of the biggest stages of their career. That Post Malone tour proved formative, as they sharpened a high-energy set designed to win over new listeners. “We were ready after the Post tour,” Charlie explains. “Now the opportunity of gaining fans is exponentially higher. We know we can play a really good set - and some of them might even know our music.”
Each night, Wilson invited the duo back on stage for an acoustic rendition of ‘Pieces’. “You’d be in front of 25,000 people at Madison Square Garden and you could hear a pin drop,” Gary recalls. “It was a really cool moment and we appreciate knowing they didn’t have to have us there - they could’ve picked literally anyone else.”
Despite the scale of these shows, the ‘Bama boys remain humble. “Those opportunities are amazing,” Gary says, “but when you play your own show, there’s something different about it that’s special.” We're keeping our fingers crossed that Muscadine and Wilson's experience touring together might have sparked an idea for another collaboration in the near future, following the Gold-certified ‘pieces’...
Longleaf Lo-Fi is out now on all streaming platforms, with Muscadine Bloodline’s own tour dates now on sale.
