Over the past two decades, through a formidable arsenal of chart-topping albums and No. 1 singles, Miranda Lambert has established herself as one of the biggest names in country music.

Now, Lambert has announced that she's parting way with Sony Music, the label she has been signed to since she first started out on Music Row as a hopeful singer-songwriter in 2003.

In an emotional social media post, the Texas native outlined her reasons for the decision, as well as emphasising her gratitude for everything that Sony has helped her achieve during their twenty years together.

Lambert wrote, “Since I was 19-years-old, Sony has been my home in Nashville. Over the last 20 years Together we have released albums that allowed me to share my story with the world, and we’ve reached heights I’d never even dreamed were possible”.

She then hint at her next move, “I’m so thankful for our time together and everything they made possible for me, yet I wouldn’t be true to myself if I wasn’t constantly looking for the next challenge and a new way to stretch my creativity.

With that in mind, I’ve decided to say goodbye to my Sony family. I can’t wait to see what the next adventure holds”.

It's unclear as to whether Lambert is setting up a new label, or whether she is joining one of Sony's rivals.

Miranda Lambert already had her own imprint, Vanner Records, under Sony Music Nashville, but perhaps she's seeking more artistic independence.

Lambert remains one of the biggest draws in the genre, with her latest album, Palomino, debuting in the Top Five of the Billboard 200 and receiving widespread acclaim from fans and critics alike.
