Listen, Megan Moroney might have worn "Tennesse orange for him," but she'll be proudly donning the red and black of her beloved Bulldogs this Saturday as the two teams gear up for their deep-seated rivalry game.
In case you've been living under a rock the last few years, Moroney's breakout tune, 'Tennessee Orange,' took country music by storm as she crooned about the complexities of love and, of course, college football.
A born and raised Georgian and a proud alumni of the University of Georgia, whose team and mascots are the Georgia Bulldogs, Moroney sings of finding herself smitten with (*gasp*) a Tennessee fan.
Without getting into the politics of college football and conferences and all that jazz, all you really need to know is the the rivalry between Georgia and Tennessee has been around since 1992, with the Bulldogs enjoyed a 28-23-2 record over the Volunteers. Regardless, the rivalry persists, and now so does Moroney's blossoming country music career.
Because of her own connection to the border-state rivalry, Moroney will be hosting a special event in partnership with Spotify Champions ahead of this year's epic college football showdown.
Less than 24 hours before over 90,000 fans enter Dooley Field at Sanford Stadium to scream bloody murder at refs and cheer on 20-year-olds like they're gladiators, Moroney will be taking the stage at UGA campus' Georgia Theater to (hopefully) unite fans from both sides of the rivalry, if only for one night.
The venue, which holds a special place in Moroney's career as it was also the home of her very first performance, will also play host to Mackenzie Carpenter and Lily Rose, also both Georgia natives.
No doubt bringing the song that started it all to what's sure to be a sold out crowd, fans should also expect a variety of cuts from Moroney's just-released record, Am I Okay?, which Holler called "one of the best country albums of the year as she delves ever deeper into the hook ups, break-ups and sometimes toxic relationships that women have with men."
Throughout the week leading up to the highly-anticipated game, Moroney will also be taking over Spotify's Country Tailgate playlist, featuring some of her favorite tracks to soundtrack the rivalry match up all weekend long.
