As the excitement continues to build ahead of Mumford & Sons’ star-studded new album, Prizefighter, which arrives on February 20th, Matt Damon has shared that Marcus Mumford has sent him the record a few weeks early - and he's had it on repeat.

It turns out being a Hollywood Star has perks beyond the obvious - and one of those is getting to hear new music before it drops. While promoting his new film with his close friend Ben Affleck, The Rip, which premieres on January 16th, Damon has revealed to Capital FM that Mumford & Sons’ new album, Prizefighter is “fantastic”.

Damon gushes, “Marcus Mumford sent me his new album that's coming out later in the year, and I've had that on repeat”, amusingly adding, “I don't know what the name of it is”.

Hilariously, as Affleck expresses mock jealousy at the fact that Marcus sent it to Damon and not him, Damon underlines, “I got it in a DropBox...It is fantastic. It is really, really good”.

Prizefighter will feature a titanic cast of collaborators, with Hozier appearing on the already-released lead single, ‘Rubber Band Man’, while country chart-topper Chris Stapleton lends his voice to the opener, ‘Here’. What's more, Gigi Perez and Gracie Abrams link up with the folk troubadours for ‘Icarus’ and ‘Badlands’ respectively.

Judging by the singles we're heard so far, ‘Rubber Band Man’ and ‘The Banjo Song’, Prizefighter is shaping up to be an early contender for 2026's Folk Album of the Year, with Mumford & Sons once again showcasing why they've been one of the most influential and successful acts in the genre over the past fifteen years or so.

The project arrives less than twelve months after their 2025 record, RUSHMERE, which served as their first album in seven years. It seems the British group - consisting of Marcus, Ted Dwane and Ben Lovett - are now making up for lost time by keeping the new music flowing, and we're certainly not complaining.
