Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real have shared the first song from their upcoming album, Sticks and Stones - and it's safe to say it's one fans have been keenly awaiting for some time now.
The new single, ‘More Than Friends’, is a show-stopping, retro-tinged duet with Lainey Wilson, and will delight fans of the eclectic, traditional country sound popularised by Lukas’ father, Willie Nelson.
The playful, celebratory song finds Lukas and Lainey asking each other to experience the jubilance of slipping into the shoes of a couple for the evening, as they temporarily become ‘more than friends’.
The duo heart-warmingly sing to one another, “Forget tomorrow / We can face the music then / But I promise you tonight will never end / If we pretend / We're more than friends”.
Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real are currently gearing up to release their follow-up to 2021's much-loved record, A Few Stars Apart, which produced fan-favourites such as ‘We'll Be Alright’.
Avid followers of the country-folk pioneers will be hoping they'll get to hear the band's frontman, Lukas Nelson, performing some of the songs from Sticks and Stones during his upcoming appearance at Willie Nelson's 90th Birthday Celebration in April.
Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real's new project, Sticks and Stones, will be released on July 14.
