Lainey Wilson Reveals She's Written “Multiple” Songs with Post Malone

During a forthcoming interview with Baylen Leonard for Absolute Radio Country, Lainey Wilson discussed her experience writing with Post Malone for his new album, F-1Trillion.

Lainey and Posty have joined forces for ‘Nosedive’, which features on the F-1Trillion tracklist alongside other star-studded collaborations with Morgan Wallen, Luke Combs, Dolly Parton, Tim McGraw, Blake Shelton, Chris Stapleton, HARDY and more.

In her conversation with Baylen, Lainey Wilson shed some light on how her ‘Nosedive’ writing session with Post Malone came about, “The day after the CMA Awards, he called and was like, ‘Hey do you wanna come write?’ So we wrote for like sixteen hours, I think - we wrote through the night. That's the first write that I had ever done through the night. I was trying to hang...I was trying to be cool, I was like, ‘Yeah, we're gonna get through it, we're gonna get through it’”.

Lainey isn't the first country artist to struggle with Post Malone's penchant for night-owl sessions, with Morgan Wallen joking in a December 2023 Billboard interview, “[He] likes to write really, really late at night - and I can’t do that three nights in a row. I can do that one night. I can start about 5pm, but starting at 10pm - that’s rough”.

In her chat with Baylen, Lainey went on to confirm that Nashville hitmaker Ashley Gorley and country legend Brad Paisley were also part of their session, before sharing, “It was so cool...I was like, ‘This is a random combination!’ but so much fun”. Brad Paisley has collaborated with Post Malone for ‘Goes Without Saying’ on F-1Trillion.

Lainey also paid tribute to how Post Malone lived up to her expectations, “You hear things about people and you're like, ‘I hope they are what people say they are’ - and when I tell you he is a good person, just the way that he treats people, he treats a bartender just like he would treat a CEO. And I love being friends with folks like that”.

Luke Combs delivered a similarly touching homage to his ‘Guy For That’ collaborator, explaining in an interview with CMT, “I mean, he's so nice. He's an unbelievable guy. You can't help but be happy around him, to be honest. He's just in such a great mood all the time - you know, at least when I'm around him, I'm sure he has his moments like everybody else. But he's just so welcoming to anyone and everyone”.

Excitingly, Lainey Wilson confirmed to Baylen that - just like Luke Combs - she too wrote an array of additional songs with Post Malone during their Nashville session, as well as ‘Nosedive’.

The ‘Hang Tight Honey’ singer-songwriter revealed, “We wrote multiple [songs] and it was so much fun, just to see how they work too, you know?...It was an experience that I'd never had, but a lot of fun”, with Lainey then underlining that she hopes the other tracks see the light of day before too long. When asked if she thinks they'll be released on one of her future projects or one of Post Malone's, she emphasised, “I'm hoping so! I mean, they were really good songs...we'll see!”

Given the fact that Lainey Wilson and Post Malone's share a sense of swagger and charisma, as well as an ability to wrap evocative storytelling in infectious, earworm melodies, it's safe to say we'd love to see this duo recording more than just one song together.

Lainey Wilson is currently gearing up to release her new album, Whirlwind, on August 23, with Post Malone's debut country record, F-1Trillion, arriving the week before, on August 16.
