Lainey Wilson has confirmed she'll be releasing a deluxe version of her lauded 2024 studio album, Whirlwind, with the forthcoming project featuring an additional five tracks.
Included in this bonus collection is the previously shared ‘Bell Bottoms Up’, named after Lainey Wilson's Nashville bar, and the newly unveiled single, ‘Somewhere Over Laredo’.
The Louisiana native will also release three never-heard-before tracks as part of Whirlwind (Deluxe), which arrives on August 22nd. It appears Lainey Wilson is entering her Oxford Comma Era, with the trio of new songs titled, ‘King Ranch, King George, King James’, ‘Yesterday, All Day, Every Day’ and ‘Peace, Love, and Cowboys’.
In a socials post announcing the release of ‘Somewhere Over Laredo’, Wilson explains, “I spend a lot of my time 30,000 feet in the air flying to the next show. Even though I’m not on the ground, I use that time to be still. I catch myself looking out the window, talking to God, dreaming, or even reminiscing. I think this song tells a story that speaks to that. I’ve always been inspired by putting myself into other peoples’ shoes and telling stories from different perspectives, but with this one I've enjoyed putting myself back into a pair of shoes that I wore years ago”.
Some fans suspected that the 2025 ACM Entertainer of the Year was gearing up for something big this summer, after Wilson's Wild Horses fanbase were invited to a virtual listening party for ‘Somewhere Over Laredo’. Tickets were printed as mock boarding passes, with the flight number ‘LW0822’ - i.e. Lainey Wilson August 22.
Given how infectious ‘Somewhere Over Laredo’ is, with Lainey Wilson showcasing her sinuous, charismatic vocals across an undulating, stripped-back instrumental, we can't wait to hear the other new tracks she has in store for Whirlwind (Deluxe).
