It's no big news that we're huge fans of Kentucky's country and Americana artists here at Holler. From Tyler Childers and Brit Taylor, to Chris Stapleton and Abby Hamilton, the Bluegrass State churns out some of the best the genre has to offer, and we're always loving them.
Another star on that list is Kelsey Waldon.
On her 2022 album No Regular Dog, Waldon shares a gritty and glorious portrait of living in devotion to your deepest dreams: self-doubt and sacrifice, hard-won wisdom and sudden moments of unimaginable transcendence.
It's a portrait that was brought vividly to life during her set at the Long Road festival this weekend, as she storied her way through standout songs like 'Sweet Little Girl', 'Dirty Old Town' and more.
Performing as part of the Oh Boy Records stage takeover of the Front Porch, Waldon and her ever-talented band brought the spirit of Kentucky to the heart of Leicestershire, encouraging the initially mellow Sunday afternoon crowd to get up and shake away the cobwebs of the night before.
"'No Regular Dog' is about stepping into your own boots and wearing them, embracing everything that makes you special", Waldon shared about the album's title track, before performing a tight and rollicking rendition of it, her knack for storytelling through song displayed throughout.
At the heart of Waldon's songs is pure traditional country, which then weaves its way through honky tonk, bluegrass and even a bit of psychedelic-influenced 70s rock.
