Americana up-and-comer Kashus Culpepper has delivered a soulful rendition of his 2024 single, ‘After Me?’, as part of his Holler Nashville Session, presented by George Dickel.
With this intricate, acoustic version of the track, the Alabama singer-songwriter cements his status as one of the most exciting new voices to emerge in the alt-country space.
Kashus Culpepper, who was officially signed to Big Loud Records in June, released the heartbroken offering as his first single to launch his burgeoning career later that month.
Hearing ‘After Me?’ with this stripped-back ambience accentuates the anguish Culpepper laces into the lyrics, with his striking rasp combining powerfully with the gentle strums.
‘After Me?’ pivots around a witty play on words, with Kashus Culpepper despairingly and viscerally setting the scene as his lover walks down the aisle to meet another man.
He croons forlornly, “Guess I'm the old love / And he's the new / Her broach is borrowed / Guess I'm the blue / I just can't seem to / So how can she / Be happy ever after me”. Kashus Culpepper's ’After Me?’ is expected to feature on his forthcoming debut album.
Kashus Culpepper's Holler Nashville Session, presented by George Dickel, follows acoustic recordings in the popular series performed by the likes of Zach Top, Emily Nenni, Angel White, 49 Winchester, Matt Koziol, Angie K, Alex Lambert and more.
