Is Kane Brown shifting from country music?

Appearing on the Impaulsive podcast with Logan Paul and Mike Majlak, the genre-blurring country star discussed how he's looking to make a change in both his sound and image to fit a 'younger' style.

"I have three kids now, everybody's younger, and I just realised the other day that I'm still one of the youngest guys in country music". Brown told Paul and Majlak. "But working out has brought back my young mentality, so I'm trying to rebrand myself, basically".

When asked by Paul how he intended on doing that, Brown referenced the recent release of his new single, '2 Pair'. "Just fun, summer. It's almost kind of like 'Miles On it', just that younger vibe - being on stage, running around, looking FIT".

This admission from Brown was a surprisingly frank and forthright statement on the 'What Ifs' singer's direction moving forward, particularly when considering his desire to come across in the same regard as some of the younger country artists breaking through on the scene.

Brown's desire to change tack and embrace a 'younger' mentality has also fed into his personal life, particularly in the way he looks after himself physically.

When asked what his diet consists of right now, Brown listed off a menu of the healthy stuff. "No fast food, no sugar, chicken, turkey, rice and potatoes on re-feed days, asparagus. I work out everyday, run a mile everyday, push myself. I want to look like a plastic toy soldier".

Adding to the openness of the conversation, Brown explained on why he's doing it: "I just want it to be where you can see every muscle in my body". Brown adds. "It was a huge mental thing too. I was kind of in a rough spot, mentally. I don't want to bring anyone down, cause I'm trying to rebrand myself".

The conversation, even in it's first ten minutes, was a really enlightening exhibition of the thought processes and battles an artist goes through, particularly in the social media age of instant information and gratification. Where country music has certainly before chosen to hide pressures or stresses, Brown has been forthright with his challenges in the industry.

"It's just the business that we're in, everybody's constantly competing with each other".

When asked by Paul if it's Morgan Wallen's fault, Brown was quick to reject the idea, revealing that Wallen himself had reached out to Brown about working out together. "Morgan's my boy, he actually just hit me up about training. He's trying to get fit".

If all the fellas in country music are getting themselves in better shape, maybe we're heading for the "wellness bro" era of country music. Hey, if everyone's looking after themselves, we're all here for it.
