At long last, Kacey Musgraves has shared the first single off the follow-up to her 2018 award-winning album Golden Hour. Listen to the title track 'Star-Crossed' below.
The song begins with a long, breathy musical interlude and Spanish-style guitar. "Let me set the scene / Two lovers ripped right at the seams / They woke up from a perfect dream / And then the darkness came", Musgraves sings.
Musgraves' last album Golden Hour detailed the heady romance of her relationship — and later marriage — to singer/songwriter Ruston Kelly. But the pair split in July 2020, and in recent months, Musgraves has shared how her new album will follow a Greek tragedy motif, focusing on the aftermath of that relationship's dissolution and the pain she felt.
As if the album alone didn't already promise to break fans' hearts, there's also a film that will accompany its release. Directed by Bardia Zeinali, it features appearances from Eugene Levy, Princess Nokia, Victoria Pedretti, RuPaul’s Drag Race‘s Symone and Megan Stalter.
