John Prine's passing last April, due to complications from COVID-19, rocked the music world.
Now, his family have planned a week-long celebration in Nashville to honor what would have been the legendary singer-songwriter's 75th birthday.
'The Prine Family Presents: You Got Gold: Celebrating the Life & Songs of John Prine' will take place October 3-10, and include special performances and events dedicated to Prine's work and life.
Parts of those performances include two shows at the Ryman Auditorium (October 6-7), a show at the CMA Theater at the Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum (October 8) and a show at the Basement East (October 9), with more shows to come.
While no specific participants have yet been announced, each of the shows promises to feature "a unique surprise line-up of friends performing and celebrating John's inimitable life and songs".
Proceeds from the week will go to The Hello In There Foundation, a newly created non-profit that the Prine family established to honor his memory.
Named after one of Prine's most moving songs, the organization "aims to identify and collaborate with individuals and communities where people of all ages are marginalized, discriminated against or, for any reason, are otherwise forgotten", according to his family.
Those interested in attending 'You Got Gold' can find tickets at the event's website.
The celebration is just the latest plan to honor Prine. A new tribute album called Broken Hearts & Dirty Windows Vol. 2 is due this fall, and like its 2010 predecessor, Broken Hearts & Dirty Windows: Songs of John Prine, it will feature a number of musicians covering Prine's songs.
So far, Brandi Carlile has covered 'I Remember Everything'. "John Prine is a hero and one of the most important and significant songwriters of our time,” Carlile said in a statement about the album's release.
“I feel so lucky to have called him a friend. It was an absolute honor of my life to pay tribute to him on the Grammy stage. His songs will live forever".
Earlier this year, his 2017 Newport Folk Festival album was released on vinyl. That concert featured guest spots from Justin Vernon, Jim James, Margo Price and Nathaniel Rateliff.
