Jelly Roll has revealed more about his weight-loss journey in a new documentary with WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment).

Jelly Roll has developed a great relationship with the sports entertainment company in recent years, appearing numerous times since 2023 and even competing in a match in August 2025 at WWE's two-day, stadium event, Summerslam.

In Episode 4 of WWE's Unreal Series on Netflix, Jelly Roll discusses his time with the company, explaining how he first came to work with them.

"It was Monday Night Raw in Nashville, 2023. Randy Orton was there, and it was super, super cool. That was the first time I was like, 'Dude, I'm famous enough they let me get involved.'"

"All I got to do was push Dominik Mysterio, but I wasn't physically able to do much more."

While Jelly's appearance at the Nashville event was the first time he had the chance to work with WWE, it was actually his time in the ring at Summerslam 2024 that inspired him to begin his weight-loss journey.

"When I'm getting up from doing the five knuckle shuffle (John Cena's trademark move), I'm hanging onto a rope, R-Truth's got one arm, and Miz has got another arm, and at that moment, I realised I was so big, that it took two grown men to get me to stand up'".

"I knew that if I didn't do something, it was going to kill me, and I just remember leaving there and being like, 'I will be back next summer a different f***ing human.'"

While Jelly began putting in the work to get in shape, he found his goal for motivating him to continue with it. An opportunity to actually wrestle at the next Summerslam event was the dream, and Jelly was determined to not only reach a weight that made it feasible for him to do so, but train to a level that ensured he was proud of his performance.

"I just kind of shot my shot, and I was like, ‘Hey, Triple H (COO of WWE), I'm losing this weight, man. I'm dead serious about this’."

54 days out from Summerslam, Jelly stepped onto the scales. "Training for Summerslam, we're going to see how much we weigh today. Stepping onto the scales”, Jelly mentions, “'Will it stay on there when I get off? I can't even see it, I'm so fat.'”

The hard work was paying off. "'327 pounds, baby - 300 pounds, we're gonna walk to that ring that night under 300 pounds. 300 pounds for the first time since I was probably... 14 years old'”.

At that moment, Jelly revealed the hurdles he's faced previously. “That exact number, around 330 pounds, was the exact time I jumped off the horse the last time I tried to lose the weight.”

'On a selfish level, I need this. This might motivate me to push me past that number I've never seen before on the scale.

In the documentary, Executive Director of WWE and former wrestler Bruce Pritchard explained how the partnership came to fruition. "Jelly Roll approached us, he fought to be a part of Summerslam. He moved, got a house - got two houses actually - in Orlando. One for him, and then one for his crew, so that when he finished working out, he went and wrote songs at night, 'cause that's his job.'”

As the pounds fell off and he was put through he paces training for the match, Jelly's understanding and acknowledgement of the sheer scale of the task at hand was not lost.

He admits, "Every day, it scared me. My fear in wrestling was, had I bit off more than I could chew? Was I physically going to be able to do it? You can imagine my first week, my body was going, ‘No! There's no way you're going to be ready for this!’"

"But that same dog that came out of me that was determined to make it as a songwriter, started coming out of me out there".

"From 11-2 each day, I'd let Coach Matt Bloom, Coach Moss and Coach Brookside beat me to death. I've never been through something more gruelling that I cannot wait to get back to doing it. Dude I'm going to have a Summerslam match! It'll be the coolest thing ever!"

On the night of Summerslam, wrestling superstar CM Punk is shown greeting Jelly Roll with a hug, "Where's the f***ing rest of you, you skinny motherf***er? What are you weighing?" Punk asks the CMA Award-Winner, "Right at 300, first time since middle school", Jelly reveals.

"It's f***ing inspiring" Punk replies, "Makes me wanna go to the gym right now".

While Jelly Roll would go on to lose his tag team match with Randy Orton against Logan Paul and Drew McEntire, he proved he was more than up for the task, making not just Punk, but all of us proud.
