As his fourth studio album, I'm the Problem, extends its stay at the pinnacle of the Billboard 200, could Morgan Wallen be preparing to drop a star-studded new music video for one of the tracks to keep the buzz high around the sprawling new project?
When Wallen shared an image of him donning a helmet and driving a sports car to his Instagram Stories this week, just a matter of days after being photographed alongside NASCAR legend, Richard Petty, at the Nashville Superspeedway, fans started wondering whether there may be some racing-inspired visuals en route.
One of Morgan Wallen's most respected fan-pages, Jessica's In Our Morgan Wallen Era, has provided a new theory about a forthcoming music video that makes a lot of sense.
This popular fan-page has become known for its insightful videos shedding light on easter eggs and cryptic clues that are left for listeners by the ‘Last Night’ chart-topper.
Here, Jessica points out that three core members of Morgan Wallen's visuals team - David Lehr, Ryan ‘Spidey’ Smith and Justin Clough - have shared an Instagram Story of them filming together, which usually means they're working on a Wallen music video.
Jessica picked up on the racing-themed imaging and symbols that have peppered the rollout for I'm the Problem in early May, and now, with Wallen's latest string of posts and teasers, she is speculating that he is readying a brand new set of visuals.
Now, Wallen drops racing references throughout I'm the Problem, but most notably on ‘I Ain't Comin‘ Back’ with Post Malone and ‘Number 3 and Number 7’ with Eric Church.
On the former, he name-checks Richard Petty (“But the night I said I'm leavin', I turned into Richard Petty / Broke my heart so I got even in my '97 Chevy”), and the fact that he was hanging out with the revered driver over the weekend in Nashville could suggest he's going to be a part of the new music video. When you consider the streaming figures, ‘I Ain't Comin‘ Back’ is surely the leading candidate for a video, with the titanic duet sitting on over 60 million streams, while ‘Number 3 and Number 7’ has tallied an impressive but considerably smaller 11 million.
Bear in mind ’I Ain't Comin’ Back’ was released around a month before ‘Number 3 and Number 7’, so it has had a lot longer to rack up streams. But even so, the fact that Post is the featured artist makes this a no-brainer as a future single at Country Radio, and a music video would give it another boost as it eyes the No. 1 spot.
On the other hand, in terms of the story, ‘Number 3 and Number 7’ would lend itself perfectly to a music video, with Wallen and Church regaling the listener with the bittersweet tale of a boy-racer who suffers a life-changing car crash after drinking too much.
What's more, as Jessica points out, Morgan Wallen idolises Eric Church, and would undoubtedly love to release a music video with The Chief at some point in his career.
Our money is still on ‘I Ain't Comin’ Back’, and if this is the case, we're hoping Post Malone has found time away from his Big Ass Stadium Tour with Jelly Roll to record some footage for the video, too. Given how impactful Morgan Wallen and Post's 2024 visuals for ‘I Had Some Help’ were, we can't wait to see what else they have in store.
