Morgan Wallen might have just treated us to 37 top-shelf country earworms - but is the ‘Love Somebody’ singer-songwriter hinting that he has even more up his sleeve?
Although not usually particularly active on social media, the Sneedville megastar has responded to a fan on X (formerly Twitter) stating, “I need a full 2 minute song of interlude please”, with a pointed, “Noted”, leaving us wondering if this is a cryptic clue.
Given the fact that Morgan Wallen only tends to reply on X if it's to tease new music - as he did when he first teased ‘What I Want’ with Tate McRae in the lead-up to his new album - we reckon Wallen might be readying an expanded rendition of ‘Interlude’.
Although ‘Interlude’ clocks in at just 44 seconds long, it has become one of the most talked-about tracks on I'm the Problem. What is the message behind it? What separates the songs before it and the songs that follow it? Why is it track No. 6 on a 37-song album, rather than being positioned closer to the middle-point of the project?
It always felt like an intentionally enigmatic move from Morgan Wallen, with this marking the first time the ‘Last Night’ chart-topper has included an interlude on an album.
Mixed alone by his long-time producer Charlie Handsome, who recently paid tribute to Wallen in a heartwarming post, ‘Interlude’ explores a hazy, trap-inspired ambience.
It finds the country titan extending his reflection on blame, which he started on the album's opener and title-track, ‘I'm the Problem’, with Wallen crooning wryly, “You're why I drink too much / You're why I love that taste / Yeah, if we're moving on / Girl, we just keep moving / I'm why you can't find love / I'm why the shit don't change / Yeah, if we're moving on / Girl, we just keep moving the wrong way”.
The rattling hi-hats and murky drums combine to create a trap-leaning atmosphere that draws from similar textures to those used by Travis Scott, with ‘Interlude’ potentially hinting at Wallen's continued exploration of genres outside of country music.
Given the emotional intensity and the undulating, introspective feel of ‘Interlude’, we'd certainly love to hear an expanded take on the track from Wallen in the coming weeks. Could this be lined up as part of a deluxe version of I'm the Problem?
For a many artists, crafting a 37-track project would exhaust their creative capacity, but Wallen always seems to have an abundance of stellar songs at his disposal, so - although it sounds crazy - we wouldn't rule out the possibility of him adding to the record.

“Mm
You're why I drink too much
You're why I love that taste
Yeah, if we're moving on
Girl, we just keep movin'
-
I'm why you can't find love
I'm why the shit don't change
Yeah, if we're movin' on
Girl, we just keep movin' the wrong way
-
You're why I drink too much
You're why I love that taste
Yeah, if we're moving on
Girl, we just keep movin' the wrong way...
-
(I’m why you can’t find love
I’m why the shit don’t change
Yeah if we’re movin’ on)”
