George Strait has taken to Instagram to tease an imminent announcement regarding his plans for 2026, with the King of Country seemingly hinting at a brand new festival.
Strait has shared a vintage poster of Strait's Chevy Truck Country Music Festival from 1998, which saw the ‘Carried Away’ hitmaker bringing a star-studded roster of openers, including Tim McGraw, The Dixie Chicks, Kenny Chesney, Jo Dee Messina, Mark Wills and Asleep at the Wheel on tour across North America.
Alongside this, Strait invites his fans to try and figure out what he has up his sleeve, “Gearing up for a 2026 announcement. Here’s a clue! Let us know your guess in the comments”.
Strait's 1998 festival was similar Willie Nelson's Outlaw Music Festival, which features an array of openers as Nelson performs across the US. We'd love to see a return of Strait's Country Music Festival, potentially with some of the same artists that were on the original bill, such as Tim McGraw, Kenny Chesney and The Chicks.
Strait dropped his celebrated new album, Cowboys And Dreamers, in 2024. In addition to working on this latest body of work, the ‘Nobody In His Right Mind Would've Left Her’ crooner has spent much of the past two years performing across a slew of US stadiums with the likes of Chris Stapleton, Little Big Town and Parker McCollum.
Last June, for instance, Strait set a new record for the highest single ticketed concert in the US in his home-state of Texas, which featured Parker McCollum and Catie Offerman.
Despite officially walking away from full-blown touring with his now-iconic Cowboy Rides Away run in 2014, Strait has kept his loyal fanbase satisfied by booking in a smattering of shows almost every year. Particularly as neo-traditional country enjoys a resurgence in popularity, a George Strait festival - even if a one-night-only event - would be welcomed with open arms by fans of the genre.
