If we've learned anything over the last few years, it's that one of the most terrifying things that can happen to you as an artist is Kelly Clarkson covering your song... mostly because she will absolutely sing you under the table without lifting a finger.
The very first winner of American Idol back in 2002, Clarkson has truly become one of America's sweethearts over the last two decades, andThe Kelly Clarkson Show has risen its way to one of the most watched daytime TV shows in the country.
As part of her daily show, Clarkson opens with her signature Kellyoke segment, where the famed vocalist covers current hits and treasured classics backed by her My Band, Y'all band.
The newest song that Clarkson took a stab at was none other than Riley Green's 'Worst Way.'
Included on both Green's widely lauded Way Out Here EP and his celebrated October album, Don't Mind If I Do, it's a sultry little number that finds the rising country superstar getting steamy as he sings about wanting some, uh, quality time with his love interest.
The two-minute Clarkson cover is moody in its own way, with rock-tinged guitars wailing about and her soaring vocals taking flight in the song's second half.
"So close all the blinds, lock all the doors / Put away anything that'll break / Baby, I need you tonight / Let's see how much love we can make / I want you in the worst way," she sings with stunning conviction as she reaches the upper parts of her vocal register to roaring applause.
"That was Riley Green's 'Worst Way.' He released it last year which one critic called a 'steamy little number,' and Riley recently said performing that song is one of the biggest moments in his live shows." Clarkson added, "I love him, I dig him. You should check him out!"
The Kellyoke cover arrives just days after Green dropped the highly-anticipated music video for 'Worst Way,' which draws inspiration from one of his all-time favorite movies, Bull Durham, starring Kevin Costner and Susan Sarandon.
Currently working its way up to country radio charts, 'Worst Way' will look to follow in the footsteps of Green's momentous collaboration with Ella Langley, ‘you look like you love me’, which topped the Billboard Country Airplay chart last year and peaked at No. 30 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100.
