During his electrifying Roundhouse show in London, UK last night (May 28th), Morgan Wallen treated the packed-out crowd to an array of hits, deep cuts and fascinating stories about the creation of his chart-topping new studio album, I'm the Problem.
We were fortunate enough to hear a slew infectious, uptempo earworms from Wallen's latest body of work, such as ‘Just in Case’, ‘Eyes Are Closed’’, ‘What I Want’ and ‘I Got Better’, as well as more introspective offerings, including ‘I'm a Little Crazy’ and ‘Superman’.
When introducing the latter, which serves as the first song the Sneedville megastar has written for his son, Indigo, Wallen explained how he knew he had to record the beautiful ode as soon as he'd heard the demo when travelling home from the studio.
“I've been trying for pretty much ever since my little boy was born to write a song that was good enough to dedicate to him”, Wallen candidly shared with the audience, “I don't know, I probably wrote 30 songs that I didn't think were good enough, so we scrapped them all, and right before we were getting ready to turn in this record, we started writing a song...Once we write a song, usually I'll get Charlie, or whoever I'm writing with - usually Charlie - and he'll send me the demo so I can listen to it on the way home. Just a rough draft of what we did that day”.
The ‘Genesis’ crooner went on, “And he sent this to me, and I was driving home, you know, it's like a 25 minute drive from my house. So I usually listen to the song about seven times during that, you know, depending on how long it is, just to see if I like it”.
Movingly, Morgan Wallen choked up a little as he recalled his visceral reaction to that initial demo of ‘Superman’, which he penned alongside Blake Pendergrass, Ryan Vojtesak, James Maddocks and John Byron, “The very first time I heard it back, after we got through writing it, I just broke down and was crying, and that's the first time I had done that, writing a song for my little boy. So I figured if it touched me that way, then hopefully it would touch a lot of you guys the same way”.
‘Superman’ has quickly established itself as one of the many highlights from I'm the Problem, with the stripped-back track epitomising the vulnerability and depth Wallen has introduced throughout this project, such as on ‘I'm a Little Crazy’ and ‘Revelation’.
Elsewhere during his stellar London show, Morgan Wallen revealed to those in attendance that his favourite song from I'm the Problem is the rowdy, down-home anthem, ‘Don't We’, as well as reeling off iconic hits such as ‘I Had Some Help’ and ’Last Night’.
The set was pervaded by a warm, celebratory ambience, fuelled by the fact that I'm the Problem had become Morgan Wallen's first ever No. 1 album in the UK just days before the show. The country titan expressed his gratitude to his listeners on this side of The Pond throughout his electrifying performance, with fans now keenly looking forward to seeing Wallen again when he makes his next trip over in 2026.
