At a stop in Gilmer, Texas on his headlining tour, honky tonk country star Braxton Keith stopped mid-concert to call out those in the crowd throwing beer cans towards the stage.
“I didn’t come here to get beer cans thrown at me, alright? This isn’t a goddamn Gavin Adcock concert,” the neotraditional country singer said. A short, if impassioned, speech followed on from that moment.
Keith has been steadily gaining in popularity, with his viral 2024 hit ‘Cozy’ having over 35 million streams on Spotify alone. As he embarks on his cross-country tour, he’s not letting it slide when things start getting out of hand.
On the other side of the country live-show spectrum, Gavin Adcock has a bit of a reputation for having a wild side and an equally wild fanbase. It might not be that Keith was calling out his fellow country singer, but rather just pointing out that at his shows, the music comes first.
“We’re gonna have a good show. I just wanna get myself clear. We’re coming here to listen to country music,” he explained before telling his band to “Hit it, boys!” and launching back into the interrupted song.
Posting a clip of the incident on his own social media, Keith explained his thoughts further: “I love live music and when given the opportunity to speak up about unruliness in the concert community, I will protect my audience, band, crew, equipment, and most importantly, the integrity of live performance experiences.”
Adock wasn’t quite so appreciative of the comments, leaving a comment on CountryCentral’s Instagram account saying, “Maybe he should learn how to handle HIS fans without bringing someone else into it. Welcome to the big leagues kid.”
We might have a developing country rivalry on our hands.
Gig etiquette at an Adock concert may be quite different to that of a Keith concert, but one thing’s for sure, Keith’s come off as a pretty good guy in this situation.
Pointing out a young fan in the front row, he told the crowd “This little girl right here’s never been to a country concert before, it’s her first damn time. We’re gonna have a good show for her.”
Keith’s confidently making a name for himself, and he’s not letting anyone forget it. “I just wanna get myself clear. I am not Gavin Adcock. I’m Braxton motherfucking Keith, okay?”
If you’re hoping to catch the ‘Chase You Down’ cowboy on tour, he’s got shows lined up across the US until October - and hopefully, there won’t be anymore beer thrown at a Keith concert.
