Former American Idol contestant, Will Moseley, has shared his first new single of 2025, with the fast-emerging artist treating fans to the evocative ‘Mechanic’ today (Friday, March 28th).
After dropping an acoustic rendition of his beloved 2024 track, ‘Everything But Me’, in January, Moseley is ensuring his listenership remains well-fed as he gears up for a stellar year.
Across the warm, intimate instrumental, the Georgia native showcases the enchantingly charismatic, gravelly vocals that helped to propel Will Moseley into the coveted final two on American Idol last year, with Moseley the runner-up to Abi Carter.
‘Mechanic’ - which was penned by Will Moseley alongside Kaylin Robinson and Jaron Boyer, with Alex Maxwell leading the production - finds Moseley endearingly paying tribute to the way in which his partner fixes the parts of him that feel defective.
Across the yearning cry of steel and an undulating acoustic guitar, Will Moseley wraps his captivating vocals around the titular metaphor. After outlining that his lover doesn't know too much about working on a car, Moseley movingly likens her ability to heal him to the way in which a mechanic gets a broken-down car up and running again.
Will Moseley touchingly begins, “She don’t know a thing about an engine / Hell she can’t even pop the hood / She don’t know the difference between / Four on the floor and a three on the tree / But when it comes to workin’ on me / Damn she’s good”.
For the rousing hook, Moseley croons, “I was broke down, I was lost / Yeah I was I was stranded / Outta gas and runnin’ low on faith / She worked overtime reversin’ all my damage / Puttin’ back together pieces of a heart she didn’t break / How she did, it’ll never understand it / But when it comes to fixin’ me / She’s a mechanic”.
Speaking ahead of ‘Mechanic’s release, the country prodigy opened up about how special this track is to him, “Mechanic is one of the best representations to date of my songwriting and the stories I want to tell”. He went on, “It is one of the only songs of love and healing I’ve ever written, and I couldn’t be prouder of how it turned out!”
Given how impressive this latest offering is, fans will no doubt be hoping that ‘Mechanic’ is laying the foundation for Will Moseley's highly anticipated debut studio album later this year.
In the meantime, Will Moseley's listeners might be able to catch a sneak preview of new music at one of Moseley's 2025 tour-stops, with the up-and-coming hitmaker joining the likes of the Marshall Tucker Band and Clint Black. It follows Moseley's first ever arena show towards the end of 2024, when he opened for Zac Brown Band.
