Morgan Wallen's High School baseball field has been renamed the ‘Morgan Wallen Field’, with the Gibbs Principal, Jason Webster, praising Wallen's contribution to the school.
The ‘Last Night’ hitmaker was an avid baseball player while at Gibbs High School in Tennessee, with Morgan Wallen graduating in 2011. In 2024, ERNEST - who attended Lipscomb Academy - recalled playing baseball against Wallen, with the duo donning their High School jerseys during the latter's Neyland Stadium double-header.
In an official statement, Jason Webster has highlighted how generous Morgan Walen has been to Gibbs High School as he has evolved into one of the biggest country stars on the planet.
The Principal explained, “Morgan played baseball at Gibbs during his time. He’s part of the 2010 state championship team and if you go to his concerts, you hear him speak fondly of his time with Gibbs Baseball coach Davis. He speaks very fondly of his time with coach and you see him wearing a Gibbs Eagles baseball jersey a lot of times”.
Through his Morgan Wallen Foundation, Morgan Wallen has donated more than $35,000 to Gibbs to help enhance their band, core and baseball programs. The ‘Thought You Should Know’ crooner's charitable organisation has also given over $140,000 to renovate the Gibbs Ruritan Park and $100,000 to the Jefferson County Baseball Park.
Jason Webster expanded on why the school felt as though this name-change was an apt way of expressing their gratitude, “He’s been positive promoter of Gibbs and has given back throughout his time after high school. We’re thankful for the things that he does, not just for Gibbs high school, but Knox County schools and the community at large. He’s a very giving person and we’re excited to do this for him”.
As Webster stressed, Morgan Wallen has always made a point of celebrating his roots, both through his discography on fan-favourites such as ‘Had Me By Halftime’ and ‘Tennessee Fan‘, and via his continuing philanthropic efforts outside of music.
Wallen is currently gearing up to release his eagerly anticipated fourth studio album, I'm the Problem, which is due to feature the powerful unreleased ballad, ‘I'm a Little Crazy’, along with other recently teased tracks such as ’Superman’ and ‘Since You Got Gone’.
