Prior to kicking off his performance at C2C Berlin's Holler Stage, Bayker Blankenship sat down for a discussion about his prolific creative partnership with Waylon Wyatt.
Despite both Blankenship and Wyatt being relatively new to the space, the country prodigies have already joined forces for two duets, ‘Jailbreak’ and more recently ‘Sunday Supper’.
Blankenship recalled how, when sharing one of his trademark social media covers, Wyatt showed him love in the comments section, “He commented on it, and I hit him up. After that, I was like, ‘Man, let's keep in touch and become friends or something’. We became good buddies, and we finally met in Nashville at his producer's place. We sat down and we wrote those two songs in two days or so”.
He went on, “I call him up whenever and talk to him as a friend. If I call him and say, ‘Hey, you want to write a song?’ he'd probably say, ‘Yeah!’ He'll be there. He's a good buddy, for sure”.
Given how much we've loved their previous duets, we're hoping Bayker Blankenship and Waylon Wyatt manage to find time to hit the studio together again in the near future.
When teaming up, each artist laces a visceral sense of emotional weight into their lyrics, while their charismatic, weather-worn vocals give their duets an added feeling of gravitas.
Speaking to Holler following his C2C Berlin performance on the Holler Stage, the ‘Maxed Out’ hitmaker shed some more light on how his latest release, ‘Sunday Supper’, came about, “We wrote the song, me and Waylon in the studio with our producer, Brett [Truitt]. It was just one of those days where we wanted to write a cute little song”.
Blankenship expanded, “I had a chord progression done, and once we got it all written, we were like, ‘You know, this is pretty cool’. When we started showing it to people, they connected with it. It's a good song to roll your windows down and ride to. I know people really get touched with the words in the song, and we know it means a lot to them”.
During his C2C Berlin set on the Holler Stage, Bayker Blankenship reeled off an array of stellar cuts from his quickly burgeoning discography, including his viral break-out hit, ‘Maxed Out’.
