During a new interview with Kelleigh Bannen for Apple Music, Lainey Wilson has delved into her recent engagement to Devlin ‘Duck’ Hodges, with the 2024 ACM Entertainer of the Year winner discussing the ring and endearingly paying tribute to her fiancé.
The conversation took place while Bannen and Wilson were in London, UK for C2C Festival 2025, with the latter headlining the popular country extravaganza for the first time.
When Kelleigh Bannen, who hosts her eponymous radio show and the beloved Today's Country show on Apple Music, asked about the ring that Devlin Hodges chose, Lainey Wilson assured her she hadn't risked bringing it across The Pond, “Well, it's not on...I left it in a safe at home, where it's safe, because I'm like, over my dead body will I actually take that thing off at a hotel...and leave it somewhere”.
Heartwarmingly, the Louisiana trailblazer went on to pay homage to her fiancé, gushing about the way in which Hodges is able to contend with the unpredictable nature of the music industry, “I'm very excited...He's a brave man. He is a brave man...First of all, anybody that is okay with this lifestyle, being in the business so much, and being gone so long...He was plucked from the sky for me”.
Amusingly, Lainey Wilson was quick to quip, “Don't tell him I said it. Duck, don't listen to this!”, before light-heartedly joking to Kelleigh Bannen, “We've gotta keep him humble”.
As for the ring itself, numerous fans noticed how sizeable the gem was, with Lainey Wilson holding her arm up with mock exhaustion in a video announcing the engagement.
“I was walking with a limp!” Lainey Wilson teased, before revealing how Devlin Hodges chose the ring, “Years ago, I was kind of just joking and being like, ‘Oh, check this out’, and he was like, ‘Oh shoot!’ I think he started saving four years ago when we first were dating! But he went in and designed it, and so he took a couple rings that I showed him years ago, and kind of like put them all together. He outdid himself”.
Devlin Hodges, who formerly served as quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers and LA Rams, before transitioning into real estate, proposed in front of George Jones’ home in Nashville.
While no date has been set just yet for a wedding, Lainey Wilson confirmed to Kelleigh Bannen that she'd be wearing a dress for Devlin Hodges for the first time, “I'm gonna wear a dress...I haven't worn a dress for him yet, so I guess that would be the day to do it”.
Following the widespread acclaim that met Lainey Wilson's 2024 album, Whirlwind, fans are hoping the country icon can enjoy a well-earned break while she's away from the road in April and May - as well as maybe penning some new country anthems...!
