Hannah Juanita has performed three stand-outs from her celebrated new album, Tennessee Songbird, as part of her Holler Nashville Session, presented by Montucky Cold Snacks.
The Chattanooga singer-songwriter kicks off the trio of performances with the playful ‘Loose Caboose’, which finds Juanita tipping her hat to a rebel who will always keep you guessing. Introducing the enchanting track, Hannah Juanita explains, “It's about your wildest friend out there, you never know when they're gonna fly off the tracks”.
‘Peace of Mind’, another celebrated offering from Hannah Juanita's acclaimed sophomore album, is the next track to be given the acoustic, stripped-back treatment during this session.
Alongside the soothing strum of her guitar and her accompanying band-member's noodling bass, Hannah Juanita's striking, serpentine vocals cut through the instrumental as she accepts the uncertainty of her path, and in doing so, achieves a state of serenity (“There's no guarantee / What this song will bring / Finding my way / With each song I sing / I took the leap / Peace of mind / Is mine to keep”.
Lastly, Hannah Juanita offers up a stunning rendition of her album closer, ‘Blue Moon’. The instrumentation is minimal for much of the opening, allowing the spotlight to fall on Juanita's stellar, captivating vocals, as she croons wistfully about her absent lover, “It must be a blue moon / ‘Cause I'm thinking of you / I'm thinking of you tonight”.
Before beginning her performance of this deftly composed, old-timey heartbreak ballad, Hannah Juanita sets the scene, “This song is called ‘Blue Moon’, and I like to say, ‘Imagine a dark, starry sky behind us, maybe we're on the edge of a lake’”.
Sonically, the song captures a sense of equanimity and tranquility that feels similar to ‘Peace of Mind’ at a surface level, before Hannah Juanita's mournful lyricism makes it clear that this calmness has been given a decidedly melancholic tint.
These three performances highlight Hannah Juanita's ability to craft a sincere, resonant narrative and wrap it neatly in gleaming and wonderfully retro-leaning instrumentation, with Tennessee Songbird reaffirming why she's built such a loyal, burgeoning following. Juanita's Holler Nashville Session, presented by Montucky Cold Snacks, was recorded at Nashville's Riverside Revival venue earlier in the year.
