For Flatland Cavalry, it all began a decade ago in a garage somewhere in Lubbock, Texas. Now, the beloved six-piece is reminiscing on those humble beginnings with their latest single, 'Three Car Garage'.
Released Friday (Oct. 11), the dazzling new tune is a nostalgia-fueled anthem, in which the band take stock of the good ole days against a steel-powered arrangement.
"It's these two weathered chairs in this three-car garage," lead singer Cleto Cordero sings, his steadfast vocals marrying with the tune's racing strings and stalwart beat, "Solving all my problems, come as you are / Panoramic view on the other side / Cooler in between us, stocked, cold, and Lite / Memories paint the walls, tell our story / A modest montage / About you and me in our three-car garage."
“The song ‘Three Car Garage’ never got a chance to make it on the Come May album because ultimately it’s just a song about a garage and it didn’t fit the emotional characteristics of the other songs," Cordero described the track in a statement. "However, it’s really special and important to me because our whole band got started in a garage. I remember just sitting out there skipping class, writing songs and drinking beer. This one came to me in a moment and the band always loved playing it, and I’m so grateful we finally get a chance to record it.”
'Three Car Garage' is set to appear on the band’s forthcoming album, Flatland Forever, arriving November 8.
The impending collection will act as a celebration of the group's last decade together, as well as a marking of the decades still to come. The project will consist of select fan-favorites from past albums. Tracks from Come May, Humble Folks, Homeland Insecurity, Welcome To Countryland, Songs To Keep You Warm, and their latest release, Wandering Star, are all fair game.
It will also feature four new offerings, alternate versions of previous releases, as well as commentary from the group as they reflect on their already storied career.
