We were all glued to our sofas and TV sets last night (November 11) as the smash hit Western series Yellowstone returned to our screens on CBS and Paramount+.

Nearly two years on since John, Kayce, Beth and the rest of the Dutton family graced our screens, much has changed in the Montana-set program. Without giving away any spoilers, the first five minutes of last night's episode alone changed the very structure of what we understand Yellowstone to be, and has fans around the world furiously discussing with passion the events that unfolded.

Something that hasn't changed about the show is its dedication to showcasing the finest artists and groups in Country, Americana and Roots music. While last night's premiere episode may only have featured one distinctive song, it was certainly a favourite of ours.

Immediately following the title credits, a 'six weeks prior' message flashes across the screen and TV favourite Rip Wheeler, played by Cole Hauser, is shown driving a large truck and trailer across a wide-reaching landscape.

It's here that Flatland Cavalry and Kaitlin Butts' 'How Long', taken from the group's 2022 EP Songs To Keep You Warm, plays across the unfolding events.

The song's poignant yet hopeful lyricism fits the narrative pleasingly, as Cleto Cordero sings "Moving on's the hardest thing I've ever had to do, these days I can't stand to look int he mirror. To know you're being loved on from some other's point of view, makes the light in my eyes shine dimmer".

As the song plays on, beautiful scenic imagery is shown, as Wheeler continues his road trip to his destination amongst the difficulty of leaving.

It's not the first time that Music Supervisor for the show, Andrea von Foerster, has handpicked Flatland Cavalry to soundtrack a particular moment in the show. Their smash hit 'Mountain Song', which has 34 million streams and counting on Spotify, also featured in Season 5, during Episode 7.

The songs' appearance follows the group's release of their fan favourites album, Flatland Forever, on Friday (November 8), which features some of the bands beloved hits like 'Mountain Song' and 'A Life Where We Work Out', alongside brand new, previously unreleased tracks such as 'Three Car Garage', 'Countryman' and 'Chasing A Feeling'.

Flatland have also unveiled their Holler Nashville Session with Montucky Cold Snacks, where the group performed the three new songs from the album at Riverside Revival in Nashville, Tennessee.
