Ahead of the release of one of the most hotly anticipated country songs of 2024, ‘Wind Up Missin’ You’, Tucker Wetmore spoke to Holler about how the track came about.

It's an undoubtedly impressive feat to have one of the most viral country anthems of the year in your arsenal, before even releasing the song to streaming platforms.

Back in December, Tucker teased a snippet of a brand new demo across TikTok, with the accompanying video spreading across the social media platform like wildfire. This original clip of ‘Wind Up Missin’ You’ now has over two million plays, with more recently shared snippets easily exceeding the five million mark.

The fast-emerging artist temporarily whetted fans’ appetites for new music with the release of the stormy, beat-driven ‘Wine Into Whiskey’ in February. This stellar track has solidified Tucker Wetmore's position at the forefront of country's new wave.

However, while ‘Wine Into Whiskey’ earned Tucker his first Billboard Hot 100 hit, his comments section was still being flooded by calls for ‘Wind Up Missin’ You’ to be made available.

Thankfully, fans won't have to wait too much longer, with the rose-tinted, romantic offering set to drop on Friday, March 29th. Given how ‘Wind Up Missin’ You’ already worked its way into fans’ hearts via the brief snippets and teasers Tucker shared to TikTok, it'll be fascinating to see how they respond to the full studio version.

With the 30-second clip exploding in popularity, Tucker could be forgiven for feeling the weight of fans’ expectations as to how the rest of the track will sound. Did this add another level of pressure when recording and honing ‘Wind Up Missin’ You’?

“A little bit, to be honest”, the Washington singer-songwriter explains, “Nothing’s possible without the fans and listeners, so I want to make the music be something they enjoy. But at the end of the day, I’m an artist making the music that makes me happy and what feels right to me, so being true to myself is my biggest guiding light”.

As a result, Tucker endeavoured to keep the studio version as close as possible to the rendition he shared on socials, “We didn’t really change anything from the teaser demo on this one because we felt it was almost near perfect, so it made it pretty easy”.

The sweet, infectious track finds Tucker Wetmore exploring different thematic territory to ‘Wine Into Whiskey’, with the up-and-coming crooner capturing the untethered joy of burgeoning love. His distinctive vocals coalesce with a sultry, guitar-led instrumental to create an earworm that looks set to light up the country charts.

Tucker Wetmore touches on the mood and ambience he was striving to craft with ‘Wind Up Missin’ You’, “This song kind of paints the picture of young love to me. At some point in time, we’ve all felt it, so we wanted to find the best way to put something we’ve all been through into words. I’m very happy with what it came to be”.

Co-written alongside Chris LaCorte and Thomas Archer - credited by Tucker Wetmore as “two of Nashville’s finest” - ‘Wind Up Missin’ You’ will hopefully form part of Tucker's eagerly awaited debut album, which is expected to arrive later this year.

With the full version of ‘Wind Up Missin’ You’ building on the endearingly relatable sentiment and enchanting, sinuous melody of the TikTok snippet, it's safe to say Tucker Wetmore's rapidly growing fanbase won't be disappointed come Friday, March 29th.
