It wasn't just E.T. who found it hard. Moving away from home for the first time isn't easy for anyone. With all the excitement about the challenges that lie ahead come the anxieties about leaving all the things you know and love behind, and you'll often feel homesick from time to time. Even for the shitty weather.
Having moved halfway across the world from his small hometown of Castlederg in Northern Ireland to Nashville, rising country star Gareth is a long, long way from the life he grew up in, and he checks back in with his family for some home comforting and an emotional reminder of what made him who he is on his latest single 'Quiet in this House.'
"It's raining again in Ireland / So some things never change," he sings. "Everybody in town keeps talking about how they knew you’d make it out someday."
Gareth has had to get used to a different way of life in order to chase his country music dreams - from learning to drive on the other side of the road to moving into his first apartment - he has had to make Music City his home and the brooding, but gently uplifting torch song captures all the emotions he's been feeling as he makes a phone call back home to his family, who in real life, by a happy coincidence, are arriving to visit the singer and spend two weeks with him in Nashville on the very day the single comes out.
“My family and I are very close to each other," Gareth says. "We have grown up in the same house... mum, dad, granny, grandpa, and all my brothers and sisters. Every time I leave the house my mum always tells me it’s far too quiet. Moving to Nashville has been such a blessing but also very hard for me because I have to say goodbye to my family. I’ve never left home before and now I've moved to Nashville to chase a dream. This song is my way of sharing that story of moving to Nashville and all the emotions that come with it.”

The follow up to 'Last Thing I Do' from January, 'Quiet in this House' seamlessly blends his Irish roots with his love and understanding of country music and his gift for storytelling. Having signed a publishing deal with BMG and already with a support slot opening for Chayce Beckham under his belt, Gareth has a C2C Festival appearance and his first headlining tour in Europe in place for 2025, as well as a free show to celebrate the new single at The Basement in Nashville on February 25th.
From his start playing in Northern Ireland pubs for £50 a night, Gareth's breakthrough came in 2024 with his viral cover of 'Stick Season' by Noah Kahan, which amassed over 25 million views and 15 million streams, and it's easy to see why legendary DJ Bob Harris thinks Gareth “is going to be a big star.”
'Quiet in this House' is released on 21st February. Gareth plays a free show at The Basement in Nashville on 25th February.
