Nashville's Erin Rae has joined up with GemsOnVHS for a dreamy live-recorded session of her new song 'He's Not Free'.
The song - written back in June at the height of Black Lives Matter protests - delicately juxtaposes sunny southern imagery with a more intense reflection on the South's intense socio-political climate. "Early summer peaches / Honeysuckle vines / And all them Georgia voters / Stood in all day lines", Rae sings in wistful tones.
On her songwriting, she says, "Stacey Abrams has done heroic work to ensure fair elections for all Georgians. Ahead of this incredibly important run-off election I wanted to share this song I wrote back in June, after learning about the level of voter suppression that still goes on today and the killing of George Floyd. If you feel so led, please donate to Fair Fight to aid in continuing that work."
Rae has become one of many country artists who have publicly spoken-out about the need for systemic change in the US.
