Following the star-studded Concert For Carolina benefit last month, Eric Church returned to the Bridgestone Arena stage to perform his latest song 'Darkest Hour'.
Dedicated to North Carolina, the song is a heartfelt letter to his home state, of which he donated all the publishing royalties following the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene this year.
Taking to the stage in his familiar shades and trusty acoustic guitar, Church gently eased into the powerful song, raising the voices of those on stage with him and in attendance with a beautiful rendition of the moving song.
Speaking ahead of his performance during rehearsals for the ceremony, Church described how important it was to continue speaking about the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene, particularly to his home state of North Carolina.
"The biggest thing for me with this performance is continuing to shed a light on Hurricane Helene and what happened to my home, which is Western North Carolina, where the devastation is immense." Church explains in his interview with the CMA. "The biggest part for me is, I feel like in this country, with our News cycle, we move along very quickly to the next thing, and those people are going to need help for a very long time".
"The more I can shine a light on that, raise awareness on that, the more good we can do. That's my hope and reason for doing 'Darkest Hour'.
It's easy to see why Church's performance held such emotional gravitas throughout when considering the personal effort The Chief is taking to aid and assist those in need in his home state.
