Dolly Parton has announced a star-studded new version of her hit song, ‘Light of a Clear Blue Morning’, featuring Miley Cyrus, Lainey Wilson, Queen Latifah and Reba McEntire.
First released in 1977 as one of the lead singles from the ‘9 to 5’ icon's New Harvest...First Gathering project, ‘Light of a Clear Blue Morning’ has cemented itself over the years as one of the most revered songs in Parton's expansive catalogue of gems.
Taking to social media, the country legend has confirmed she will be sharing a revamped rendition of ’Light of a Clear Blue Morning’ this Friday (January 16th), with all proceeds going towards the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt in Nashville.
Alongside the cover art, the ‘Coat of Many Colors’ singer-songwriter has excitedly shared, “Coming this Friday 💛 A new rendition of my song “Light of a Clear Blue Morning” featuring [Lainey Wilson], [Miley Cyrus], [Queen Latifah] and [Reba McEntire]”.
Parton expands, “Proceeds from this recording and music video will benefit pediatric cancer research at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt in Nashville, TN”. Parton has been a prominent benefactor of Vanderbilt University Medical Center throughout her career, with this new charitable single the latest example of the ‘I Will Always Love You’ crooner's inspiring generosity.
It's fantastic to hear there will be an accompanying music video, which will hopefully feature both Parton and her collaborators. The Tennessee native is close friends with Lainey, Queen Latifah and Reba, while Miley is famously Parton's god-daughter.
Parton and Lainey have joined forces on a number of occasions, but this serves as their first studio collaboration, while Parton and Miley linked up for the former's Rockstar album. The duo delivered a stellar rendition of Miley's 2013 anthem, ‘Wrecking Ball’.
The timing of ‘Light of a Clear Blue Morning’ feels apt, with the song encouraging listeners to hold onto hope in darkness, with Parton reassuringly crooning, “I've been looking for the sunshine / You know, I ain't seen it in so long / Everything's gonna work out just fine / Everything's gonna be all right / That's been all right”.
This serves as Parton's first release since the unexpected single, ‘Bella’, in December 2025, which was inspired by the country megastar's children's book, Billy the Kid.
