When it rains, Cody Johnson pours everything he's got into putting on a show. That's exactly what he did on Saturday night (April 20) at a stormy Two Step Inn.
The festival's opening day endured touch-and-go weather, abbreviated sets, and ultimately an early end, but one thing was certain: the headliner was going to play rain, shine, or Armageddon. Under sopping skies and raging winds, the hitmaker unleashed a Texas-sized set, making sure everyone who stayed to watch his performance got everything they came for and more.
For an hour and a half, Johnson painstakingly pulled from twenty years worth of songs, treating fans old and new to No. 1s and deep cuts, hit songs but also hidden gems. Enraptured festival-goers, cloaked in soaked rainwear, two-stepped along to the performance in turn.
He was every bit the showman from the moment he opened the set with his raucous home state hit 'That's Texas' until he closed at the night with his classic 'Diamond in My Pocket'. In between, he sprinkled in stories about his life and career, words of wisdom and encouragement, and one point, even led the crowd in a chorus of 'God Bless America' and chants of "U-S-A".
The weather hardly let up during the showcase, but neither did Johnson, who emphatically said he would play for the crowd until the last possible minute. The entertainer was true to his word, holding nothing back and leaving no attendee unsatisfied.
