Cody Johnson is on top once again. The 'Til You Can't' balladeer recently earned his second Billboard Country Airplay No. 1 with 'The Painter.'
The lead single from his 2023 released album Leather, 'The Painter' took the radio chart throne after seeing an increase of 12% during the tracking week of Feb. 23-29.
The song, however, hasn't been a skyrocketing success on the chart. Upon its initial release to country radio on Aug. 10, 2023, the single debuted at No. 33. Only weeks later, 'The Painter' had dropped to No. 40.
Late 2023 saw the artist perform the deeply intimate track at the 2023 CMA Awards, where he also boasted a nomination for Male Vocalist of the Year. Since the spellbinding performance, the song has only risen in accolades and chart positions.
With the song – written by Benjy Davis, Kat Higgins and Ryan Larkins – Johnson beautifully celebrates his wife, Brandi.
“My favorite lyric in ‘The Painter’ is ‘For every wall I built, she saw a canvas’," the artist explained in an interview with Country Now. "If there’s anything that describes my marriage with my wife, Brandi, it’s that line. And that’s why we’ve been together for 15 years.
“I hope my fans are encouraged to take the time to appreciate the people they have around them," he continued in the conversation. "The ones who make their life beautiful and bring all the beautiful colors to their world when it could just be black and white and dark. Remember them and tell them you love them.”
Johnson's latest Airplay No. 1 joins his first radio chart-topper, the 2021-released 'Til You Can't.' His other Leather single 'Dirt Cheap' currently sits at No. 58 on the same chart.
