Just days after making his late-night debut, Charles Wesley Godwin is treating fans to three new performance tracks through an exclusive Apple Music Nashville Sessions.
Godwin and his band, the Allegheny High, dive into reimagined versions of two standouts from his Big Loud Records debut Family Ties as well as a dramatic take on Bruce Springsteen's 'Youngstown'.
The Sessions starts off strong with fan-favorite 'Cue Country Roads'.
The song takes a new identity, abandoning the rowdy nature of the original. Punctuated by a floating steel guitar and soft acoustic riffs, the song has a spellbinding quality.
The second track, 'Family Ties', follows suit with a more traditional acoustic approach. This tie between old and new is the passion behind the signature hook: 'strike me down if I cut family ties'.
The third song on the Sessions is a reimagined cover of Bruce Springsteen's 'Youngstown'. A fitting inclusion, and one that feels like a natural selection for Godwin.
The song tells the tale of the rise and fall of Youngstown, Ohio over several generations. Toward the end of the song, Springsteen reaches out to other areas devastated by the decline of the steel industry, including the Appalachian region that raised Godwin.
'Youngstown' is a complex song written more like a short work of fiction than a hit song, and Godwin does the track justice with his Sessions rendition.
This release is impressive and we cannot wait to see what Godwin surprises us with next.
Godwin will get back out onto the road for his extensive list of 2024 tour dates starting March 22. Throughout the year, he'll be juggling headlining shows, as well supporting slots with Luke Combs on his Growin' Up & Gettin' Old Tour.
