2025 marks the 10 year anniversary of America’s largest touring festival, one that was launched by country legend Willie Nelson himself.

Kicking off on May 13 and running until September 19, the lineup features an unparalleled collection of legends, including Bob Dylan, Billy Strings, The Red Clay Strays, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats and, of course, Willie Nelson and Family.

However, two big names to come out of Appalachia teamed up in Georgia, taking to the Ameris Bank Amphitheatre stage together for a moment that’s bound to be remembered. Red-dirt legends Turnpike Troubadours were joined during their set by West Virginia native Charles Wesley Godwin for a rendition of their fan favourite, 'Long Hot Summer Day'.

Godwin was second on the Georgia lineup, following the rising star Willow Avalon, and as much of an honour it is to be playing Outlaw Music Festival at all, it seems that he was just as in awe at the artists surrounding him. Taking to social media after the show, he stated that he “can’t quite put into words how insanely awesome it is to say 'Coming up next! Turnpike Troubadours, BOB DYLAN AND WILLIE NELSON!'"

We can't blame him, that’s quite the lineup.

As Godwin left the stage, he made way for Turnpike Troubadours to make the first of their seven sets on the Outlaw Music Festival Tour. Although they closed the set with the moving ‘Heaven Passing Through’, the band first had their rowdy moment with the stomping ‘Long Hot Summer Day’ being their penultimate song–one that they often save until the end of their set.

As the song kicked off, a familiar face joined the stage. Taking on the iconic “Last night we had pork for supper…” verse, Godwin looked thrilled to be sharing the stage with Turnpike as the group made sure that everyone in the Georgia crowd was singing along to the infectious chorus.

In fact, the quick collaboration went down so well that Godwin joined them again on the next stop in North Carolina.

Godwin's Outlaw appearances have come and gone now, but with Turnpike having a few more shows lined up on the Outlaw Fest run, we wonder who else might join them for the iconic song.
