After defending him against online trolls criticising his appearance last week, Bunnie XO has taken to social media to share a heartfelt birthday tribute to her husband, Jelly Roll.
As Dave Fenley's ‘Stuck On You’ plays out in the background, a montage of Bunnie and Jelly's highlights from the past year plays, with Bunnie writing, “To the man I worship & admire, loving you in all your eras is my favorite thing to do. Happy birthday my shooting star, I love love love youuuuu”, adding, “I'll kiss you in every lifetime”.
The couple danced to the same track, which clearly holds a special place in their hearts, during the recent prom-themed party they attended. The event was organised as a surprise by Jelly's daughter, Bailee, who wanted to treat her dad and step-mother to a prom-inspired evening, as neither got to attend their own prom.
Bunnie's heartwarming tribute comes as Jelly celebrates his 41st birthday, following a year that has seen the ‘Need a Favor’ hitmaker cement himself as one of the biggest names in country music. He's toured alongside Post Malone on the Big Ass Stadium Tour, as well as earning a Best Contemporary Country Album Grammy nomination for his Beautifully Broken record, and picking up another viral hit courtesy of his soul-stirring Brandon Lake collaboration, ‘Hard Fought Hallelujah’.
Despite this illustrious year, during which Bunnie has also blazed a trail with her immensely popular Dumb Blond Podcast, the couple have still faced a torrent of online abuse.
Jelly and Bunnie remain of the most generous and charitable couples in country music, with the duo regularly partaking in philanthropic work, while Jelly makes a concerted effort to return to prisons and offer advice, meals, donations and more following his on-and-off stint in the system when he was in his early 20's.
For instance, Jelly has received flak online because of his considerable weight loss journey, which has seen him drop from around 600 pounds to 250 over the course of two years.
Bunnie has addressed the hate and bizarre rumours that this slimmed-down version of Jelly is a clone, stressing, “First of all, if my husband was a clone, don't you think I'd be the first motherf***er to say, ‘This motherf***er is not real!’ What am I gonna be in a marriage with a clone for? I don't even understand that. But then they tried to say, like, the birthmark under his eye is gone. It's still there! The dude used to weigh almost 600 pounds. He's 250 - his skin sits differently. I just feel really bad for him, because everybody around him that loses weight gets congratulated, but then he gets drug into these conspiracy theories”.
She went on to joke that Jelly is not too bothered by the conjecture around his appearance, quipping that he sees himself as the country equivalent to rapper Gucci Mane. Gucci sparked a barrage of headlines when he lost a lot of weight in the late 2010s.
We're glad that Jelly remains unflustered, but it's also great to see Bunnie standing up for her man. Given how much light they radiate throughout the country world and beyond, hopefully people will focus instead on this, rather than speculating about the way they look and stirring strange rumours about their relationship.
