It's Day One of the 2025 Masters today (Thursday, April 10th), which means we're all glued to our screens as we cheer on our favourites, while at the same time deep-down hoping that Rory McIlroy finally gets his Green Jacket (surely, this is the year...right?).
Country music has always enjoyed a close relationship with the great game, with a slew of artists hitting the links to unwind when they're off tour or taking time away from the studio.
One such artist is Luke Combs, with the ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ hitmaker speaking in the past about how he takes a PGA instructor out on tour with him, such is his passion for the game. During a chat with Bobby Bones, Combs explained, “He’s a friend of my utility player, so I met him years ago. He’s a club pro at a course in Boston and he’s (an) awesome guy, fits in with our crew. He flies out for the weekend”.
Combs went on, “I try to do something (with golf) every day when I’m out there. I just try to be productive when I’m out there. Kids aren’t with me, Nicole is out every once in a while. So really we do that, run on the treadmill… I wish I could be like, ‘Man it’s crazy out there (on the road).’ You got two kids man, it’s a lot of naps”.
Heartwarmingly, in a new post on X (formerly Twitter), Luke Combs has underlined how far he's come on his golfing journey, sharing that he recently reached a key milestone.
The ‘Hurricane’ singer-songwriter excitedly revealed, “Broke 100 for the first time ever this week on the same day I headlined [Tortuga Festival]”. Virtually every golfer can remember the first time they broke 100 - i.e. made it round in fewer than 100 strokes - as it always feels like a key marker-post for your progression in the game.
Then, Luke Combs went on to share how he was - like the rest of us - soaking up some of the action from Augusta National. The ‘Beautiful Crazy’ chart-topper gushed, “Watching the [The Masters] with the fam on the couch right now, in the studio later today, and turkey season opens in TN on Saturday. Good times”.
Although he casually slipped it into his post, the fact that Luke Combs will be recording some new music “in the studio later today” is fantastic news, with Combs continuing to tease unreleased tracks ahead of his keenly awaited Fathers & Sons follow-up.
The country titan has paid tribute to his penchant for golf through a number of songs, such as ‘When It Rains It Pours’ (“I only spent five bucks at the Moose Club raffle / Won a used 4-wheeler and three free passes / For me and two of my buddies to play a round of golf”) and ‘Lovin’ On You’ (“I like a sunrise, duck blind, Birdie on a par five / Miller Lite before noon”). We're hoping this weekend's action in Georgia might inspire a few more fairway-themed lines for Luke Combs’ next project...
