Predating the current wave of neo-traditionalist country singers by a good 15 years, Brennen Leigh is still leading the way for classic honky tonk country and her highly anticipated new album, Don’t You Ever Give Up On Love, due out on 3 October via Signature Sounds, is only going to make you fall in love with her all over again.

The first taste of the new album comes with the delightful 'Dumpster Diving' as Leigh calls time on a rubbish relationship and serves up a few home truths to a two-timing little piece of trash who doesn't appreciate the home-cooked hottie waiting for him at home.

"We planted a little garden / we watered it all spring / So we could have tomatoes, onions, hot peppers and things," she sings on the upbeat honky tonker as a perky pedal steel nods and winks along with her. "I made you pretty picnics with all the things we grew / But you said that you weren’t hungry, then I found out that you were going Dumpster diving."

Although self-described as a “trashy little tune,” do not discard the wisdom earned from Leigh’s brief suffering by “settling for less than we deserve in love.”Trashy is a mindset after all. Never forget, there are billionaires in the world today who are some of the trashiest people alive.

As renowned for her musicianship as for her writing, with its hard hitting, hilariously incisive lyrics, 'Dumpster Diving' is reminiscent of one of Loretta Lynn's legendary no-shit-taken, no-fucks-given romantic kerb kickers.
