Brennan Edwards has officially announced his new album, with the fast-emerging singer-songwriter kicking off the rollout of the highly anticipated project with the release of the record's soul-stirring lead single, ‘The Great By and By’.
The entire album is set to be acoustic, with Brennan Edwards confirming via his socials that the upcoming project will consist of seven songs, comprising four covers and three originals.
The news follows hot on the heels of Brennan Edwards’ previous single, ‘Until I Bleed’, another stripped-back offering. It's unclear as of yet whether ‘Until I Bleed’ will make its way onto the new album's tracklist, but given Edwards’ announcement that ‘The Great By and By’ would be the first single from the project, it seems unlikely.
‘The Great By and By’ is a sparse yet deeply affecting musing on faith and spirituality, with Brennan Edwards amiably reeling off a series of aphorisms and adages, such as “Live spelt backwards is ‘evil’ / And an evil life might as well be dead / And if you're living life for other people / You'll live your whole life in your head”.
By removing any glossy production and releasing ‘The Great By and By’ as an acoustic track, it ensures the spotlight is placed unwaveringly on the intricate, uplifting lyrics.
Taking to his socials, Brennan Edwards delved into the inspiration behind the new project, “Recorded in one hour, this record features seven solo acoustic songs (four covers and three originals) that all relate to my experience with God”.
The Virginia native went on to outline why he's decided to eschew traditional production, “Much like each of us, it has lots of imperfections but will undoubtedly be used by the Lord to do great things. I’m very excited to give the world this song… hope y’all enjoy it”.
