Country-pop icon, Brenda Lee, has earned a record-breaking Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 with her much-loved 1958 holiday classic, ‘Rocking’ Around The Christmas Tree’.
Brenda Lee has broken a slew of records in the process, becoming the oldest person to ever top the US Singles list, outpacing Louis Armstrong, who has held onto the honour since 1964. Armstrong's ‘Hello, Dolly!’ surged to No. 1 in 1964, when he was 62.
Cindy Mabe, the CEO of Brenda Lee's label, UMG Nashville, broke the exciting news during a heartwarming interview, with Brenda being visibly moved by the surprise revelation.
Despite the recurring popularity of Christmas music year-on-year, Brenda Lee's ‘Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree’ is only the third festive track to top the US chart, following Mariah Carey's colossal hit, ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ and the Chipmunks’ ‘The Chipmunk Song’.
Brenda Lee's cosy classic always leaps up the charts in the lead-up to December 25th, but this year, thanks to a promotional drive from her label, which included the release of a new music video for the track, the anthem has secured the top spot.
On this week's Billboard Hot 100 chart, Brenda Lee's ‘Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree’ is followed by Mariah Carey's ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ and Jack Harlow's ‘Lovin On Me’.
