Brandon Lake has offered a moving homage to Lainey Wilson, as the two gear up to release their keenly anticipated new collaboration, ‘The Jesus I Know Now’, on April 3rd.

The timing aptly coincides with Good Friday, with ’The Jesus I Know Now’ exploring the protagonist's blossoming journey with faith, after being initially deterred by the somewhat harsh and unforgiving depictions of Jesus and God from their childhood.

In his speech, Lake underlines what an honour it's been to work with Wilson, “The Lord's just been opening up crazy doors, just to collaborate with a lot of country artists...I sat down one day with one of my new really great friends, now - I'm proud to say that”.

The Contemporary Christian Music trailblazer goes on to recall, “She is the realest deal. She was telling me her story, and she mentioned something, she goes, ‘You know, the Jesus I know now isn't really like the Jesus I grew up being taught about’”.

That sparked an idea for a song from Lake, with the ‘Gratitude’ hitmaker regaling attendees with the story of how ‘The Jesus I Know Now’ was born from Wilson's story.

In the caption to the clip, Lake explains, “God’s been opening doors…and I believe every one of them is for the purpose of sharing the Gospel and reaching more people with truth. So grateful to collaborate with an amazing Godly woman, @laineywilson. There’s something powerful about Kingdom collaboration. My friend @johncmaxwell said it best: “Stay in the church, but NEVER stop moving toward the lost.” This song is for anyone who’s ever had the wrong picture of Jesus. He’s full of grace AND He’s especially fond of the misfits. “The Jesus I Know Now,” praying it meets you right where you are this Good Friday”.

We've loved this intricate, soul-stirring offering ever since Lake first teased it back in November, and we can't wait to hit play on ’The Jesus I Know’ now this Good Friday. It follows Lake's country duets with Bailey Zimmerman (‘Just Believe’), Cody Johnson (‘When a Cowboy Prays’), Jelly Roll (‘Hard Fought Hallelujah’) and more.
