Brandon Lake has taken to Instagram to share a heartwarming new song, seemingly titled ’Down to Earth’, dedicated to his wife, Britt, in honour of Valentine's Day.
The Contemporary Christian Music trailblazer continues to hint at a foray into the country space, with ‘Down to Earth’ the latest teaser from Lake's forthcoming studio record.
It finds the ‘Gratitude’ singer-songwriter serenading Britt as he wonders how someone so perfect, kind-natured and pure-spirited could be walking this earth, singing adoringly, “God must’ve had enough angels in Heaven / So He sent her Down To Earth”.
The South Caroline native adds in the caption, “Britt, you’re my everything. Thx for choosing me”. We hopefully won't have to wait too long before we hear the full version of ‘Down to Earth’, with Lake's warm, soulful lyricism combining with the bright, uplifting guitar riff to produce a certified Country Christian crossover anthem.
It's the latest in a string of clues that Lake is working on a Country-leaning project, with the ‘Hard Fought Hallelujah’ chart-topper sharing a flurry of photos from a recent writing retreat with Country stars such as Thomas Rhett, Dan + Shay, Lainey Wilson, Russell Dickerson, Bailey Zimmerman, Tyler Hubbard and more.
He started the year by dropping his long-awaited Cody Johnson collaboration, ‘When a Cowboy Prays’, which followed high-profile link-ups with Jelly Roll, for the Grammy-winning ‘Hard Fought Hallelujah’, and Gabby Barrett for ‘As For Me & My Home’.
Back in November, Lake gave us a taster from those writing sessions with the beautiful ‘The Jesus I Know Now’, which he penned with Wilson, Luke Laird and Emily Weisband.
With Thomas Rhett in particular teasing a foray in the other direction, from Country towards Contemporary Christian Music, we reckon Rhett will be a cornerstone of Lake's next project. Given the endearing sincerity and loving admiration that underpins ‘Down to Earth’, we suspect Rhett might be a co-writer on this track...
