BigXthaPlug has teased a new country EP featuring an A-list cast of country stars, with the Texas rapper announcing he has collaborations with Morgan Wallen, Post Malone, Luke Combs, Shaboozey and Jelly Roll on the forthcoming project.

In a new interview with Complex, BigXthaPlug has revealed, “I got a country EP loaded up. You got Shaboozey, you got Morgan Wallen, you got Post Malone, Luke Combs, Jelly Roll”.

The ‘Change Me’ hitmaker went on, “I also got another project I'm putting together, kind of like a South mix of me, Megan Thee Stallion, GloRilla, NLE Choppa. We working, we working”. It's unclear as of yet when either EP will be released, with BigXthaPlug hinting that he's still making up his mind which record to drop first.

With BigXthaPlug performing at Morgan Wallen's inaugural Sand in My Boots Festival in mid-May, it seems he might be planning to coincide the release - or at least the live debut - of his country-rap collaboration with Wallen with his set in Gulf Shores, Alabama.

Morgan Wallen and BigXthaPlug were spotted hanging out back-stage at one of the rapper's shows in December 2023, so fans have been suspecting that the duo might have something up their sleeve for some time. BigXthaPlug stoked the flames of speculation when he revealed during a January 2024 appearance on The Bootleg Kev podcast that he has tracks lined up with both Wallen and Post Malone, but few could have predicted that these would be part of a full-blown project.

Both Post Malone and Jelly Roll hail from rap backgrounds, while Morgan Wallen has a penchant for infusing trap textures into his country sound, with the Sneedville chart-topper having collaborated with the likes of Lil Durk and Moneybagg Yo. Shaboozey, meanwhile, has already teamed up with BigXthaPlug once before on his Where I've Been, Isn't Where I'm Going stand-out, ‘Drink Don't Need No Mix’.

As a result, the one name that perhaps stands out on BigXthaPlug's list of country EP collaborators is Luke Combs, who tends to stick to a more traditional-leaning sound.

Don't underestimate the ‘Hurricane’ chart-topper, though, as he was one of the driving forces behind Post Malone's wonderfully eclectic debut country album, F-1Trillion, and Combs recently commented on one of BigXthaPlug's posts suggesting he's a longstanding fan of the ‘2AM‘ maverick, sharing, ‘Ask them boys who put em on to BigX!’

2024 has been peppered with pop and rap artists attempting to crossover into country music, following the genre's explosion in popularity courtesy of trailblazers such as Morgan Wallen, Shaboozey, Luke Combs, Lainey Wilson and various others.

Many of these have fallen flat, with artists clearly just attempting to hop on the country bandwagon with little sincerity or deep-seated appreciation for the genre beyond its current success. However, while it's certainly difficult at this point to imagine how BigXthaPlug's trap sound will mesh with country, he's been laying the foundation for this foray into the genre for over a year, which at least shows he's serious. With a guest-list this impressive, we're excited to see what this project holds.
