In the latest episode of Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2, titled ‘The Apocalypse Of Change’, Colter Wall's soulful ballad, ‘For a Long While’, served as the soundtrack for a sweet, romantic moment between two fan-favourite characters, Beth and Rip.
Following the trauma that pervaded the opening episode of Season 5 Part 2, which saw Beth reeling after the death of her father and Yellowstone patriarch, Kevin Costner's John Dutton, Beth and Rip make some time for themselves by going out for a drink. Beth Dutton is portrayed by Kelly Reilly, while Rip Wheeler is played by Cole Hauser.
Shortly after sitting down, Beth takes Rip's hand and invites him to dance, before the stoic cowboy hesitantly responds, “Honey, I don't see a dance floor”. We then get a classic Beth quip, as she shrugs her shoulders and smiles, “Well, we'll make our own”.
As they happily twirl across their makeshift dance-floor, the duo capture the feeling that they often bring to the show, one of finding comfort and love in a space where both appear absent.
Despite their toughness and shared ruthlessness when it comes to dealing with their enemies, Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler's love story has become a welcome respite from the violent battles and hard-fought power struggles that pepper the rest of the show.
Colter Wall's rugged, unmistakable vocals accentuate the intimacy of the scene, with ‘For a Long While’ one of the many stand-outs from Colter's 2023 album, Little Things. The Canadian crooner has featured a number of times throughout Yellowstone so far, with songs such as ‘Cowpoke’, ‘Sleeping on the Blacktop’, ‘Plain to See Plainsman’ and ‘Carolina’ all appearing in previous seasons. In this new episode alone, both ‘For a Long While’ and ‘Night Herding Song’ can be heard.
Elsewhere during ‘The Apocalypse Of Change’, Flatland Cavalry debuted an unreleased song. New episodes of Yellowstone air on Sundays at 8pm ET via the Paramount Network in the US and can be streamed on Paramount+ in Canada and the UK.
